Conca was the only place on Amalfi Coast where there was theso-called “tonnara”: This was the system used fish tunas. This system includedfishing nets that caught tunas while they were migrating along the coast. Thetraditions of Conca are full of stories about exceptional fishermen,"crazy" tunas, tuna killings.
Fishing is deeply linked to another important activity of Conca deiMarini: handicraft. Handicraft is an important resource, in fact fish traps andbaskets for fish are the most common products.
Conca dei Marini is also the place were the famous cake ‘Santa Rosa’ was created. Infact according to a tradition, the cake called “Santa Rosa”was invented in the monastery dedicated to Saint Rose, Santa Rosa in Italian, at the beginning ofXVIII century. This cake is the classical Neapolitan “Sfogliata” filled in witha delicious custard made of ricotta and candied fruits. It is also decoratedwith black cherry jam. Each year on the day of Saint Rose Feast, the 30th ofAugust, the nuns gave these cakes to all the families of the town.
Tourists come to Conca dei Marini to admire the charming submerged cribmade of Vietri ceramics in the wonderful cave called Emerald Cave.
In Conca there are interesting monuments to visit, for example thechurch dedicated to Saint Anthony, with a great glazed bell tower and thefortress Capo di Conca, with a tower, built in XVI century to defend the townfrom pirates.
Tourists love Conca dei Marini also because the climate is very good andthe sea is wonderful: this is why Conca is called "The Gem of AmalfitanaCoast". Conca has always had famous visitors: for example Margareth ofEngland liked the magic atmosphere of this wonderful place.
