Furore

Furore, on Amalfi Coast: a village in thefiord

The name Furore comes from Latin phrase ‘Terra Furoris’ because duringstormy nights the noise of the sea was incredibly loud. It seemed that the seawas full of anger. Anger in Italian can be translated as Furore. Furore is verypicturesque since it is situated in the homonymous fiord. To reach the fiord, you have to follow road 163 (the road that links Amalfi to Positano). Alongthis road, you will discover that at a certain point it goes down, towards thesea, towards this wonderful fiord. This is the place chosen by the greatItalian director, Roberto Rossellini, to set the episode Miracolo (featuringAnna Magnani and Federico Fellini in the movie Amore, of 1948.

Due to its charm, Furore is the setting for an important art event, thattakes place every year in September, when artists and painters meet in Furoreto decorated the walls of the houses, making this village still morepicturesque and fascinating.

The most typical product of Furore is the prickly pear: it is also theprotagonist of a “tasty” festival, every year at the and of summer, inSeptember.

Another important typical product is a special kind of tomato, called “pomodorinodi montagna a piennolo”. Cultivation of pomodorini is made using thetraditional ancient techniques: the seeds used are from the crop of theprevious year and in January they are put in the water for one or two daysuntil they bud. These seeds are then put in a seed-bed and kept hot until thefirst small plants see the light.

Even if a small village, in Furore there are interesting churches thatsurely deserve a visit, such as the churches dedicated to Saint Michael and toSaint James.
