Maiori
Maiori is called the "Queen" of Amalfi Coast, the Divine Coast
The town of Maiori is on Amalfi Coast surrounded by gardens and terraces rich of citruses, in front of a beautiful beach, at the mouth of Reginna Major small river.
When Romans arrived on Amalfi Coast, they called the river of Maiori Reginna Major to distinguish it from Reginna Minor, at whose mouth is Minori.
Maiori has a precious and interesting cultural and artistic heritage; its monuments surely deserve a visit, for example the Collegiate Church dedicated to Our Lady, Santa Maria a Mare; the picturesque Madonna Avvocata Sanctuary; Miramare Castle; the Church and the Monastery dedicated to Saint Francis; the elegant Mezzacapo Palace with two great marble staircases.
Nature in Maiori is full of surprises, for example the caves, such as Sulfurea and Pandora caves, or the beaches, such as Cala Bellavaia beach. Cala Bellavaia is also called the beach of “Cavallo Morto”, that is “dead horse” because in the past people used to get rid of dead horses in this area.
Maiori has always attracted people from all over the world, even actors and directors, for example Roberto Rossellini. The famous Italian director loved Maiori and its inhabitants in fact some episodes of his films are set in Maiori. In the movie “Paisà” (1946) he used the Norman tower (built in 1563, today it is a restaurant), he filmed the children of Maiori and the friars of the local monastery.
Maiori is a town with great spirituality and religious faith: during the year there are many religious feasts and celebrations, such as the Way of the Cross, a touching procession performed on Good Friday; Corpus Domini Feast in June; Our Lady of the Rosary Feast in May, and many others.
As the other towns of Amalfi Coast, Maiori offers many possibilities for tourists. In Maiori, as everywhere on Amalfi Coast, tourists find wonderful sea, beautiful landscapes, delicious gastronomy. The most typical dishes are fish-based recipes and cakes made with lemons. Even in Maiori, as in the other towns of Amalfi Coast, you can find the delicious “yellow liqueur” called Limoncello. One of the most typical products is aubergine with chocolate, a strange dish maybe imported by middle-eastern invaders. “Concerto” is the typical liqueur and the recipe is rare.
In Maiori tourists surely find the accommodation and the facilities they need: elegant hotels or cheap bed and breakfasts; small houses or flats and villas. Staying in Maiori gives the possibility to enjoy the sea and the beautiful nature, to taste the delicious local gastronomy, and to visit the interesting monuments.
All these elements make of Maiori the perfect setting for your holidays and also for the celebration of the most important day of a life: the wedding day. Thanks to the presence of elegant hotels, comfortable and high-quality restaurants, skilled photographers, and thanks also to the great scenario created by sea and nature, Maiori (and the rest of Amalfi Coast) is the ideal setting for the ideal wedding day. If you choose to have your wedding day in Maiori you will surely have an unforgettable experience, that also your family and friends will never forget.
Thanks to these resources Maiori is loved by tourists, in fact the greatest economic resource is tourism.
