Positano
Positano is one of the most famous towns of Amalfi Coast
Positano is the town of fashion with the famous style Moda Positano: in Positano there are many shops and boutiques that sell different kinds of beautiful frocks and dresses made of traditional handkerchief. Designer Irene Kowaliska stayed in Positano from 1942 to 1956. She created models for fabrics showing blue women on the terraces or at the windows, on a white background with the typical landscape of Positano at their back. This is called “moda Positano”: a variegated, polychrome, and exotic fashion.
Positano is the most picturesque town of Amalfi Coast thanks to its structure: it is made of a picturesque cascade of small houses, crossed by narrow streets and staircases, with nice beaches. In fact the town has developed in a vertical way: seeing these small houses built as a cascade is really charming, just like the wonderful sea. This is why artists from the whole world have always loved Positano and chosen it for their holidays or longer periods. Positano is in a wonderful location rich of natural beauties and tourists started to arrive after the Second World War. Today many tourists still arrive but Positano didn’t lose its typical image of a “vertical” town.
In the sea in front of Positano there are the famous small islands, called ‘Li Galli’ or “Sirenuse”. This is a small archipelago formed by three small islands, “Gallo lungo”, “Rotonda”, and “Castelluccio”. In the past people thought that mermaids lived there. The name ‘Li Galli’ comes from ancient Greek traditions, according to which mermaids were birds with a human face. Legends and traditions are strong in Positano: for example according to a legend Positano was founded by Poseidon, Neptun, the god of the sea, for a nymph he loved, Pasitea.
If you choose to spend a holiday in Positano you will surely live a wonderful and unforgettable experience. In Positano you will find the accommodation you need and you look for, such as elegant hotels or cheaper bed and breakfast, small flats or elegant villas to rent. Restaurants will give you the possibility to try the delicious local gastronomy, made of fish-based recipes, lemons, and much more. In fact local restaurants, from the cheapest restaurant to the most elegant one, offer tasty fish-based recipes, cooked with local fish and seasoned with the delicious local olive oil. Lemons are used for cakes and to make the "limoncello", a traditional yellow liqueur famous all over the world. Lemons are mostly sweet; the peel is thick and tender, and very odorous. You can also eat lemons in slices, as a dessert. These delicious dishes and menus can be accompanied by the strong and tasteful local wines.
Visiting Positano you will enjoy also a visit to its interesting monuments, such as the church dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption (with a beautiful mosaic glazed dome). Among the most picturesque and charming natural beauties of Amalfi Coast there are the caves of Positano, they are Prehistoric caves (La Porta, Del Mezzogiorno, Delle Soppressate, Erica, Vigna Pendente and Mirabella or Monaco-Spera).
During the year in Positano there are interesting events, such as Positano Città Slow, the international meeting of the towns where life is “good and slow”, during the summer; Cartoons on the bay, an international review of cartoons, in May; the representation of the landing of Saracens, on 15th August.
So in Positano you will find everything you need for a perfect, relaxing but also exciting holiday: beautiful nature, delicious gastronomy, ideal accommodation, interesting monuments, and much more.
